Citric acid / For Cleaning Silver / Silver Coins

For cleaning silver / silver coins. Not suitable for copper, bronze and zinc.

Use standard 1 part grains on 5 parts water. In case of light soiling, adjust the ratio downwards. In case of a thick crust, adjust the ratio upwards.

Place the coins in the citric acid bath for a few hours to a day, depending on the amount of dirt and the thickness of the oxidation crust. By placing some iron nails on the bottom, the process is accelerated. Make sure that the nails do not touch the coins! Then brush off with a soft brush (cut-off toothbrush). If necessary, rub with chalk or baking soda and then neutralize for 1 or 2 days in demineralized water and let it dry.

By contact with the sulphur in the air, the silver coin will oxidize again and the coin will turn black again after a while. To prevent this, you can store the coin in a coin holder or place it in a coin capsule in your display case.

Warning:

Citric acid may cause skin irritation and serious eye damage.
IF IN EYES: Rinse carefully with water for several minutes; remove contact lenses, if possible; continue rinsing.
