Twice a year we are organising a training course especially for Militaria detectorists and collectors on how best to clean and conserve militaria. Location our showroom in Nijkerk.
Goal of the course is to give militaria seekers/collectors enough knowledge to clean and conserve archaeological finds and collectibles in the best way possible and with the possibilities at home. The theory part will cover recognising metals, what is corrosion, safety, making a plan of action and of course the basic techniques for the different types of metals. After lunch, the practical part will start and we will work on different objects.
Afterwards, you will be given a handout containing most of the information discussed. So you don't have to write it down and you don't have to worry about missing anything. After each section, there will be time for questions.
The instructor of this course is Michel Hendriksen of ArcheoMetaal. Michel is Senior Field Technician, KNA Specialist Preservation and Senior Specialist Materials and, above all, someone with a lot of experience in excavating militaria and cleaning and preserving them.
