10% Tannin Solution

You can use this tannin solution to preserve iron. However, it is important to first desalinate the iron and then sandblast, grind or remove rust using Metal Decoroder or oxalic acid.

You can apply the tannin with a brush or by dipping. The tannin forms a bond with the iron molecules, which prevents the corrosion process from restarting. Once dry, you can seal it with Paraloid B72 and, if desired, treat it afterwards with Renaissance Wax (low sheen).
