This interactive discovery box takes children on an exciting journey into the past, allowing them to step into the shoes of a real archaeologist. With authentic-looking finds, professional research equipment and challenging tasks, children learn in a playful way how archaeologists work and why the past is so important.

The kit includes shards, coins, fossils and research materials such as brushes, magnifying glasses, sieves and a metal detector. In addition, safety equipment, such as cones, high-visibility vests and gloves, ensures a safe and realistic learning environment. By digging, investigating, comparing and taking notes, children not only discover hidden treasures, but also develop important skills such as teamwork, observation, investigation and critical thinking.

1. What a find!

A book for anyone who loves history and archaeology. As well as information about archaeological finds, the book is full of tips on how to get started like a real archaeologist. The perfect (classroom) preparation for the Archaeological Discovery Box.

2. Safety

The box contains 4 markers to mark out the area, 5 orange high-visibility vests and 9 pairs of work gloves in 3 sizes.

3. Finds

A penny, 2½ cents, 1 guilder, 2½ guilders, 3 guilders, a ring, 2 buckles, 2 buttons, 2 bones (plastic), dinosaur fossils, 2 Stone Age arrowheads, a bag of shards and a treasure chest.

4. Tools

Marking flags, spade, 2 plastic trowels, 2 trowels, brushes, sieve and possibly a metal detector.

5. Recording

100 find record cards and 100 find bags, a calliper and tape measure, 2 magnifying glasses, an archaeologist’s set square with measurements, an A4 folder, a waterproof notebook, pencils and an eraser.

6. Manuals and activity cards

Included are manuals for the supervisor and for the children, as well as a number of activity cards.

Everything is packed in a large aluminium case, lined with foam on the inside and lockable. Fragile items, such as the finds, are packed in a separate small plastic case.
